Minding my own business on a wide road, staying as far right as practicable, as required by law. There is enough room on this road for cars to park on the right hand side, and they sometimes do. I pull a little farther into traffic to avoid a parked car, checking to be sure I'm not in the way of any motorists on the road. I get blasted with the horn of a driver, who then passes me closer than the three feet required in Maryland by law.
As luck would have it, the driver got caught at a red light, so I was able to haul ass up to the light to talk to them. I told the woman behind the wheel that it's illegal to honk at a cyclist (which it is, without provocation), and that by law she was required to give me three feet of room when passing. I couldn't actually see her roll her eyes behind her diva sunglasses, but I'm pretty sure she did. Because then she said, "Whatever." The light turned green and I said, "Well, you know, I'd rather not die out here if it's just the same to you." She pulled into the intersection, and yelled something I couldn't understand while blocking the traffic behind her. I yelled, "Have a nice day!" and made my left turn for home.
I really, really don't get what's wrong with people. Even when you try to be nice, when you try to humanize the driver-cyclist interaction so they can understand that there is a human being on that bike that they could harm with their motor vehicle, they just don't give a damn.
